Dear Editor,
I think it
is about time that the NDC Government
make an effort to stop fooling the
people of this country. I supported the
NDC in the last election but I am now
convinced that I was one of the many who
were fooled into thinking that things
will get better. I am now ready for
another change. I am prepared to go
back to the shortcomings that existed
under the NNP because this
administration is nothing but a bunch of
guys who give promises that they cannot
fulfill. They lie their way into
government and it seems like their
intention is to lie their way out of
government.
It was music
to my ears when I heard the Minister for
Works hot and sweaty announced that sand
mining will stop effective December 31st.
I would have thought that the Minister
would have done all the necessary work
before making this announcement. I was
shocked to know that the announcement
was made before the law was passed and
then when the government submitted the
bill in Parliament they decided to
withdraw it because they said they
needed to do more consultation on it.
What utter foolishness. After 13 years
in opposition these guys seem to have
done no preparatory work for governing
the country?
Imagine
this, the Government takes a decision to
fire the Manager of Gravel and Concrete
and hire the Chairman of the NDC as the
new manager. People like me who support
a party do not support blindly so I
observe every move and I look for
betterment. Since this appointment the
price of sand has increase by almost
200% with no explanation given; and the
union representing workers had to take
action to protect workers who were being
sent home by management with a few
minutes notice.
The
government seems not to care about the
impact the price of sand is having on
the poor and how it is affecting the
employment situation but what is worse,
the government prevents the public and
the poor truck men from going to the
beach to buy the sand and they said they
will be importing sand. What
hypocrisy!! The government through
gravel and concrete is so embarrassed
that after 8 months they have their
trucks at all hours of the night loading
and transporting sand, stockpiling it at
the Telescope Quarry and selling it at
exorbitant prices. How could this be
right? How could I support a party that
conducts it’s business in this manner?
I call on
the government to return to the original
plan that existed as it relates to
selling of sand or to take the bull by
the horn and stop sand mining for good.
Maybe there
is need to through throw the towel in
the air and ask for help, because it
seems like after 8 months the government
still has not gotton a grip of what the
first step should be. Almost everything
they attempt seems to be a bad move. I
am speaking out for Grenada now.
