Wednesday, May 3rd, 2009:
St George’s, Grenada: Leader
of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Dr. the Rt.
Hon. Keith Mitchell, is calling on the
NDC administration to refrain from using
the Royal Grenada Police Force to
achieve its political objective.
Commenting on the plan to
detain popular radio host, Allan
Campbell and subsequently the directive
given for him to present himself at the
Grenville Police Station for
questioning, he said it is symbolic of
the dark period 1979-1983 which no
Grenadian should want to go back to.
It is an established fact
that democracy and freedom of speech
which has bloomed in Grenada thereafter
under the Keith Mitchell administrations
is under attack today.
The use of the Police in
an effort to intimidate Mrs. Cheryl
Williams and Mr. Hugh Wildman (former
advisor to the Keith Mitchell led
administration) and now Mr. Allan
Campbell is totally unacceptable. The
reason given by the police for
questioning Campbell is a clear
indication that the instruction came
from the highest level and that the
motive is political with an aim to
stifle the voice of the ordinary people
of the country.
According to Dr.
Mitchell, the recent decision by the NDC
administration to prevent the live
broadcast of Parliament is another sign
of the Government’s intention to silence
the voice of the opposition and the
voice of the people.
Dr. Mitchell therefore calls on the
National Democratic Congress to desist
from it’s vindictive political
activities of police and parliamentary
harassment and to refrain from stifling
freedom of speech that many fought hard
and died for. Most importantly the
Opposition leader calls on the NDC
administration to focus on governing the
country to bring more benefits to the
people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite
Martinique.
Allan
Campbell's Radio Programmes can be heard
daily on major FM Radio Stations
throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petit
Martinique and via the website
