St George’s, Grenada: Former
Prime Minister. Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith
Mitchell expressed appreciation to the
Government of India for it’s commitment
to implement initiatives agreed upon
while he served Grenada as Prime
Minister.
Dr. Mitchell
expressed those sentiments to the newly
appointed High Commissioner to India Mr.
Malay Mishra when he recently paid a
courtesy call on the Opposition leader.
Dr. Mitchell
extended his gratitude through the high
commission to the Government of India
for its decision to setup the technology
centre for Grenada which was born out of
a request he had made to the Indian
Prime Minister in 2007. India had
agreed to provide support to Grenada in
the area of information technology and
had started an agreement with the Keith
Mitchell administration to develop human
resource capacity in the area of
information technology.
According to
the high commissioner the Government of
Indian is still committed to fulfilling
the promises made to the NNP
administration. As past chairman of the
Caribbean Knowledge and Learning Network
project, Dr. Mitchell is still of the
firm view that initiatives such as the
technology centre will go a long way in
the advancement of many Grenadians. He
noted that it was the intention of his
administration to use the centre to
empower Grenadians and to assist in
creating employment opportunities.
The
Opposition leader also conveyed
congratulatory words to the Indian
Government on the success at the last
General elections saying that the
results will lead to more a stable
democracy in India and will provide a
greater opportunity for India to play a
greater role in the development of small
developing states such a Grenada.
Dr. Mitchell
also used the opportunity to recognize
the outstanding performances and success
of the Indian cricket team which is has
caught the attention of the entire
world.
Ambassador
Mishra who is based in Trinidad is now
high commissioner for Grenada, Trinidad
and Montserrat.
