The National
Democratic Congress once again has
proven to be incompetent and deceitful.
This incompetence revealed itself when
the NDC and its associates presented
‘a stimulus package’ at the trade-center
on Tuesday 31st March 2009.
The NDC
administration took pleasure blitzing
the nation’s airways, giving the people
high expectation about a “Stimulus
Package” to be announced. One cannot
help asking, what was the reason for
announcing the stimulus package at the
time it was announced? Is it because of
the economic situation or is it because
the people of Grenada condemned the
Government’s decision to borrow 20
million dollars from local banks to
finance recurrent expenditure? It is
clear that the undertaking to present a
stimulus package was done to further
mislead the people of Grenada, Carriacou
and Petite Martinique..
The People
of our country are hurting. From all
corners they are calling on the
government to lead and do something
about the stagnant economy. They are
calling on the Government to continue
the safety net programmes which were
started under the NNP administration.
They are calling on the Government to
discontinue the victimization and the
vindictiveness and move on with the
governance of the country. If the
leadership of the NDC was thinking they
would have presented something more
real, something more tangible, something
that will make a difference for the
Grenadian people who are crying and seem
to be getting no attention from this
administration. Is it the intention of
the NDC to put us in a position where we
are unable to make informed decisions
and are unable to understand what is
happening around us? As The Burning
Spear said, “ They want us to think
stupid, they want us to feel stupid”.
The NDC can rest assure that the New
National Party will continue to show to
all the Grenadian people their modus
operandi, which is to deceive the
people.
It is clear
that the team does not understand that
despite the fact that they won the last
election using lies and propaganda to
fool the people, they will not be able
to use lies and propaganda to stay in
power. They must deliver on the
promises. They must meet the needs of
the people.
With just
about thirteen million dollars budgeted
for the stimulus package, what is the
NDC trying to stimulate? Is it Grenada,
Carriacou , Petit Martinique or Hog
Island! For a country with a budget of
over five hundred million, thirteen
million is like a sand fly landing on an
elephant, a needle in a haystack or a
drop in a bucket.
What the
Grenadian people were looking for was
new monies into the country’s economy.
Just a quick glance at the 2009 budget,
the so called “stimulus package” will
jump right at you. And to add further,
it comes from a budget that is already
busted. Imagine, the NDC leadership had
the audacity to present an excerpt from
their 2009 budget and expect it to fly
by the Grenadian people as a stimulus
package. The reduced debushing
programme, a couple buildings being
repaired, the European Union sponsored
water project negotiated by the NNP
administration, the bottom line is, this
cannot be referred to as a stimulus
package.
Instead of
saying that we are in a better position
than the well off countries, so we only
need to take two panadol and a shot of
rum (whatever that means), it maybe
better to go back to the drawing board
and try to reverse the following
actions: removal of the safety net
programmes, the reduction in the
contractors employed in the debushing
programme, the sending home of persons
in the Imani Programme, the reduction in
the number of persons receiving public
assistance allowance, unnecessary
travelling and spending by Government
Ministers, the continued attack on local
and foreign investors, the increase in
the cost of beach sand, and the
continued dismissal of workers who are
perceived to be supporters of the NDC.
Since
Grenadians are still waiting on a
stimulus package from the NDC
administration, this maybe a good point
to start.
